He is a patient teacher, ready to help but just as ready to let you try your own way, offering a rescue service when needed. He can guide from scratch or just provide assistance for more proficient practitioners.
I was struggling to find a place where I could learn and find full-time access to workshop space; genuinely practical tuition, without written requirements. What Steve offers appears to be unique.
On top of the superb teaching, the workshop is a wonderful community. We range from 29 to 92 in years, with all manner of histories. Everyone breaks for lunch and sits at the table, sharing their wealth of experience. And for those needing further stimulation, there is a library corner for inspiration.
Training to be a silversmith can vary hugely from an apprenticeship to an academic course. Steve has experience of teaching in both environments. He is generous with his knowledge and the wealth of contacts he has built up following a lifetime in the industry."
